Overview:
The Area Management Trainee is responsible for mastering in-store service, managing inventory replenishment, generating weekly credits, training service representatives, and delivering exceptional customer service within a defined territory of high-volume national account stores. Our products include wood moldings, decorative trim, and other millwork accessories. The role involves stocking products into designated bins, removing broken or unsellable pieces, and maintaining a safe and clean area. This position requires significant and continuous heavy lifting up to 50 lbs and the ability to build reliable and cohesive relationships with customers and employees. The ideal candidate must be willing to relocate upon satisfactory completion of the training program.

Day to Day Duties: 
  • Weekly Area Conference Calls: Attend to discuss upcoming goals and service tasks.
  • Daily Communication: Check and communicate via email.
  • Time Tracking: Use GPS-enabled device to record job time for payroll. Sign in and out of store log book during each visit.
  • Store Service: Responsible for full service at 2-3 stores per day.

Full Service Includes:

  • Cleaning: Recover the condition of the aisle since last service.
  • Straightening Stock: Restock messy bins or displays and resolve bin contamination.
  • Stocking: Pack out any freight in overhead and incoming freight from the previous week’s order.
  • Culling: Remove damaged/unsellable material and issue credit electronically.
  • Merchandising: Maintain signage and pricing to best practice. Move backers to affect perception.
  • Ordering: Replenish inventory according to published guidelines.
  • Customer Interaction: Build strong, dependable relationships with store management and associates.
  • Projects and Tasks: Complete merchandising projects and tasks assigned by the area manager.
  • Service Coverage: Cover service calls when regular service representatives are away or on vacation.
  • Training: Train new and experienced service representatives to complete store service at assigned stores.
  • Task Completion: Complete tasks, projects, and resets of Woodgrain products in stores.
 

Career Progression: This position is designed to train you on all aspects of Woodgrain’s distribution network, preparing you to move into the Area Manager role. You will train with various Subject Matter Experts to become proficient in the tasks and expectations of the employees you will eventually lead. This training cycle is designed to last 6-9 months. Relocation to your service area is required upon completion of the training program.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma plus 1-3 years of relevant or prior experience. Retail experience is helpful.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and your own vehicle.
  • Basic math skills.

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, usually by email.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the customer’s organization.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
 

Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
The hazards in the workplace environment include forklifts, moving freight and other mechanical hazards.

Travel: This is a remote position with required travel to stores daily and some overnight travel time to cover outlying areas in the region.
